This past year has been quite the doozy for, well, everyone. For many folks out there it has unfortunately meant a loss in their work, and the trouble that can come with it. For others like those getting out of school it means being unable to find the work they expected. This time on the Sunrise Asphalt blog, we wanted to give you a little bit of career advice when it comes to our industry and why working in asphalt might be just the thing you’re looking for!
Why You Might Want to Pave Your Future with Asphalt
Asphalt is Community Work
Asphalt connects neighborhoods into cities, cities across states, and our nation together. You can drive from LA to New York, all the way across the Continental U.S. on asphalt. It’s a backbone of our country and transit systems. For many people being a part of something that clearly communal is a big win.
Similarly, the things you build will be around for a long time to come. When you lay a new stretch of freeway or a new subdivision road you’ll be creating a lasting piece of the physical world. It’s something that you will be able to drive over yourself in the future and say ‘I built this.’ That tactile result is something not everyone gets and few people can clearly point out the window to their work.
Pave the Way to Future Opportunities
While it might seem that way at first glance, construction isn’t the only opportunity in the asphalt paving industry. A range of careers are all available within it. Yes, there’s construction and good, honest manual labor. There’s also engineering, sales, services, administrative work, and more. If you want to look at some of them on job sites like Indeed or ZipRecruiter, look for jobs with these titles to learn more!
- Crew Technicians
- Crew Foreman
- Project Managers
- Quality Control Engineers
- Plant Operators
- Laboratory Personnel
But don’t get us wrong. It can be hard, hot work. You’ll be using a number of different tools and heavy machinery to build and work with hot asphalt. But in exchange for the job well done the asphalt industry will reward you! There’s always a demand for asphalt workers – new constructions are happening constantly! These jobs are well-paid and local. They provide not just a living to the workers, but an improved infrastructure for the community. When was the last time you heard a sales guy say he fixed Main Street for everyone? Exactly.
